About Me

Name: Cathy Schultz (owner/operator)
Hometown: Winchester, VA

I have always had a love and passion for horses. I grew up in a military family and did not have the environment to have my own horse. So whenever possible I would spend my summers with my cousin in Maryland who had horses. I was taught to ride bareback with a simple bridle to steer with. If you fell off, you got right back on, and kept riding.

One summer my Dad broke down and bought me a Dappled Palamino pony. Bareback with a bridle, I even jumped her over lawn chairs with poles. I was15 and had a pony for 3 short months. It was hard to sell her, but I knew I would at least have her for that summer.

My first "forever" horse came after I was a Grandmother. I was in my forties and my wonderful husband supported my passion for horse ownership and helped it become a reality. Then we decided to move to Winchester to be with our children and grandchildren. They were looking for a house and we were also looking for acres to keep my horses.

We found 5 acres and made it into horse property. I purchased a Tennessee Walker/Paint named Quattro that I've had for 17 years (pictured at the top of the page!), and just aquired a Tennessee Walker named Mac (pictured above with me!). We added a driving Mini also, and he is teaching me how to drive, adding another layer of knowledge to my horse information and experience.

I am retired from Fairfax County Public Schools and wanted to work part time at a job, that will never feel like a job. That is how Horsey Helpers LLC was born.

As of this year (2023) I have been in business for over 8 years, and have met some wonderful clients and their animals.

I have had the pleasure of caring for horses and house pets. Farm animals started coming into my care not long after my business got off the ground. Including Mini pigs, Emu, chickens, goats, Llamas, sheep, and I look forward to meeting new animals as we grow.
